Lionel Trains Polar Express Train Set - O GaugeReviewsVery enjoyable, was suppose to be a smoker but couldn't get it to. Grandkids and my own kids loved it though. Bought this after Christmas for 212. At this price I cannot complain. The engine alone was cost 150 or more and the z80 power supply is about 70 dollars, circle track set costs 40 to buy, and not to forget the pasenger cars 35 a piece, this set is still underpriced at msrp. That is the trick with Lionel, they sell a set real cheap to get you in the door. Then you are floored with how much anything is additional unless you win an auction. As for quality, considering the "real" detailed Lionel engines are over 1,000 each, this train is no let down in build quality. Obviously since this still is a "model", bulls in the china shop probably expect it to be indestructible. The engine is heavy and does contain some "delicate" details on the exterior. Parents with poorly behaved children should avoid anything like this requiring care so the engine is not doomed to the trash heap. For well parented children, this train provides an evening of entertainment. Of course get ready to second mortgage the home to buy expansion sets to keep things fun in the long run. This O Guage set is a beautiful train set, very heavy and durable when set up. Be careful removing from the foam packaging however. I picked the engine up in the dark of the basement prior to Christmas and broke some of the small plastic loops that hold the wire on. Too late to see the strap they provide you to remove the engine from the foam packaging. Other than that, the set is very durable, and did i say heavy? Stays on the track very well. I had shopped around on the net, and Amazon had the best price with delivery by Christmas time. Exceptional value, a well constructed Lionel product. Product was as advertised, price could not be beat. Checked with several hobby stores and their price was $75.00-$150.00 more. This is an awesome train set. The fast-track layout is nice. The attention to detail, by Lionel, is unmatched. Be sure to check out my reviews for all the extra cars you can buy for this set. They make great additions to the train and the extra figurines, also available separately, look good placed at random areas around the track. This item will last for years and my grandson, Ashton Lamb, will get years of pleasure from it. Very pleased with the Polar Express Train Set. Average Rating:![]() |

Lionel Pennsylvania Flyer O GaugeReviewsMy family and I have had a great time with this train set. My 6 year old son held me to a year old promise to purchase it for hanukah and over the past 2 months our plans just continue to grow. The set is very high quality - we have used it nearly every day and have had no problems with jumping tracks or loosing power. We have significantly expanded our track collection and look forward to adding more trains in the future. The train is perfect. My 5 year old son loves it. The engine is just like I remembered growing up -- nice and sturdy steel. The cars are mostly plastic and not quite the same quality but I think they were in the past? The O size is perfect for his hands. Glad we didn't get the HO scale as I have seen those in person and think they'd be way too small. Highly recommended. Grandson is 15 months. Start them early this is not a cheap hobby. We have looked at it, but not set it up. It is stored until next year when we can add additional Lionel sets. Delivery on time. Price good. My wife and I have been wanting to get a train set to enhance our standard Christmas decorations for several years now. We wanted a "real" train set that ran off of house current (not batteries) and was large enough to form a loop around our Christmas tree. The Lionel starter set - "The Pennsylvania Flyer" is exactly what we wanted. The "O Gauge" is a large scale model train, with each car being 10"-12" in length. I judge the quality of the set to be very high and I believe it will last many years with proper care. The track (Lionel's FastTrack) was easily assembled. Hooking up and running the train was easy and straight forward. The transformer supplied with the set is more than adequate to power the engine and cars. The train sounds great and runs like a champ. An indication of how pleased we are with this purchase is the fact that we have now purchased additional track and cars and recently attended a model train show in the DC area. We planned to make this a Christmas decoration, but it looks like it has grown into a new hobby! I purchased my Lionel train primarily for a display under my Christmas tree. I purchased a complete set, so that I could be up and running as soon as the train arrived. I was amazed at the rapid service of the Amazon vendor ([...]), as I purchased the train immediately after Thanksgiving, during the busiest time of the year. In spite of the date of purchase, my train arrived within a few days and my grandchildren (as well as their parents and granddad) loved it. There is no comparison to Lionel quality, Lionel history, and the dedication of Lionel to making model railroading fun and realistic. Average Rating:![]() |
